Charter to Help Schools With Laptop Give A Way!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Charter. All opinions are 100% mine.

Whenever a large corporation decides to take on a promotion it has many things to think about.  What population are they to consider, who has the greatest needs, who can they help the most and from a marketing stand point, what will really help get the corporation some exceptional notice as well.

A very deserving promotion is always giving to the education of our youth.  Charter is a large cable company, and all of those children out there watching various shows at home with their parents, the direction of this promotion  make a lot of sense.  It will also help out the two schools that are selected.  Each of the two schools that are finally selected to win the lap tops will win 50 lap tops each!  The lap tops are Lenovo G555's with a 15.6" screen, 160GB drive and 3GB ram (with a Targus bag).  This is wonderful news at a time when schools have seen such drastic cuts in most areas of this great country.

Our own household is run on Charter.  We have the bundle package.  It's the best deal for our family.  Our phone, computer and cable TV are all on Charter.  It has been a very good deal for us.  Only problem up here on the mountain with all the winter storms, when the TV goes out, so does the phone and computer.  But, that is just part of living on the mountain.

If you order any of Charters services you are automatically given a chance to win a lap top for yourself as well, and get up to $300 cash back or you can go online to register without purchasing anything.  Good deal!  So go online to sign up for a Charter service and nominate your favorite school for the fall.  You can go to Charter's Facebook fanpage @
Charter on Facebook

Remember, your favorite school needs to be nominated by August 12th, 2010.

Hold Onto The Special Hearts!

From U Tube site:
He Who Walks With Tigers

There are hearts and souls that touch a few of us deeply and meaningfully and there are those that are chosen for some reason to be able to reach further, and touch thousands.  Steve Irwin, the Crocodile hunter, is one of those personalities that were able to do just that.

A very large soul placed here to Shepard the lives of so many of our earthly beasts.  Some of us are given the gift of speech, of song, of lyric and others the gift of animal causes.  A gift of being able to instinctively know how to communicate with wildlife of a  certain species or many different species. The animal world gained so much from the love that Steve had to give to them.  Each individual that enjoyed his show stood to learn and gain from his shows and endless tenderness of expression towards the animal kingdom.  He left a gift that lives on today through his beloved wife and children.  They watch over what was so dear to him and is also so dear to them.  You can help watch over what was so important to him as well by going to the site listed below:
This wildlife reserve that Steve has left behind is threatened by strip mining which jeopardizes the reserve.  You can help by following link above and signing the petition there, as well as signing below,  only if you are a Queensland resident on the government petition at the following link provided: Parliament, gov. EPetitions  Thank you.

We all have a gift of some sort, we may understand and discover that talent or not.  Some of us grow to display that gift in full bloom and others, shyly search for it, but we all have talent to give.  It is nice when we can find a way to be blessed by the gift of anthers' presence.

New Urgent Action Needed- Toxic's Reform Bill Introduced.

Okay, here is another opportunity for all of us to take action, fight for our rights to have healthy newborns and an improved quality of life.  This new Toxic's Reform Bill 5820, was introduced by (D) Chairmen Rush of Illinois and (D) Chairmen Waxmen of California yesterday, July 22nd, 2010.  A long needed reform of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) of 1976.  You probably are saying, yeah, no brainer.  Legislation that old, in such a world of escalating non stop industrialization, needs reforms more often than this!

This is just what a group called Environmental Working Group, (EWG) thought as well.   So (EWG) got laboratory tests done on 10 babies' umbilical cords.  These cords were tested for chemical components within the blood volume collected.  Out of the ten subject babies, nine tested positive for a plastic component and synthetic estrogen called bisphenol A (BPA), a type of petrochemical used to produce epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics, within their umbilical cords.  All ten babies were of minority decent.  All ten was found to contain various chemicals.  In total count of 232 chemicals were found in the testing conducted by (EWG).  Don't know about you all, but I am alarmed!  We wonder why the autism rate is growing by leaps and bounds?  We all know that, chemicals alter the way cells respond, that is why they are used.  It can be a benefit but it is also a detriment.   We all must start holding our kind responsible for our role in what we are doing to our environment.  Not to place blame but to help protect what we all need to have here for a better quality of life for ourselves and the other wildlife that we share space with.

I shall take the time to thank both chairmen for bringing this bill forward.  If we all take a stand and let our voices be heard collectively then big money, Corporate lips may not win out and cut our own environmental throats.  I have included the web sites for each of the chairpersons above and below I have added each phone number to help speed the process.  I know that with the work world that we all face today, causes get lost in the mix and that's what Big Corporations count on.  If you get a chance, sign the petition in support of this important step forward to our vital protections.  Or just leave me a comment, I would love to hear how you all out there feel about this subject..

Pronghorn on Collision Course With Human Populations-A Review.

I paid a visit to, "Wild Man's Corner," a delightful site about wildlife and living in the west mainly.  His article titled, "Backyard Pronghorn," while interesting reading had a few facts that were a little bit off.  He has a fun and easy writing flair so you find yourself enjoying the read, but still questioning his facts and ignoring the typo's more than once.

He speaks of the Pronghorn doing so well in population numbers as to be walking down the main streets and into back yards grazing in folks back yards.  This high number of pronghorn, is a true statement for some areas of the west, and I gather for his area in Oregon this is the case.  The Pronghorn, is not actually an antelope, (wikipedia) and is a migratory animal who has had it's pathways fragmented and blocked by human populations so the pronghorns have to adapt.  The Pronghorn now find that to use their pathways they wind up on our streets and backyards.  I like that he did address the problem of the pronghorn's struggle with habitat encroachment issues.

while for the most part the pronghorn numbers are doing okay in most areas, they are stressed by the fragmentation and blocking of these pathways.  They have the largest numbers in Wyoming and Colorado, where it is believed that they outnumber people!
The one Pronghorn that is highly endangered, is in the Baja California Pronghorn, a desert variety.  While this author wrote an interesting article I think he could have better covered the habitats which are both grasslands and deserts and covered his facts a little better.

I liked his colorful script on how the Indians used the Pronghorn's own curious nature to gain the upper hand.  This was truly the best part of his article.

Overall, a fun site, with a colorful and creative writer who enjoys sharing his world with us

Iceland - Whats New With That Volcano

Anyone else wondering what is new with that volcano in Iceland.  The one that I, along with most others cannot pronounce.  "Eyjafjallajökull" Yeah, I can't even hope to spell that either.  Yikes!  With a name like that, no wonder it went off.  This wild one went off in April of 2010.  It's highest ash plume was 33,000feet high on it's first day on April 18th, 2010.  The ash plume was as far away as the British Isles, Finland and Norway.

Volcano - Eyjafjallajokull

Fimmvörduháls during the eruption. Photo by Páll Stefánsson 7/13/2010  At this point the volcano is not officially declared inactive but sits rather quiet for now, knock on thinner ice.

The ash itself is hazardous to health of humans and animals due to the fine particles made up of fluorine, as found by the Institute of Earth Sciences.  This fluorine within the ash  had the most effect on the immediate area of the eruption.  With animals being at the greatest risk due to grazing off the grasses that have the ash fall out blanketing it.  Cattle, horses and sheep could acquire fluorosis, a fatal bone disease.  While humans will be affected by eye, nose and throat irritation with some finer particles penetrating to the lungs.  With people that have asthma and emphysema being the most at risk for further lung issues.  For more on the health effects you can find more data at National Geographic Daily News.

I found a very extensive and informative site: Icelandic Met Office  which still updates the volcanoes movements and transformations.  The latest post was June 23rd, 2010 with reported small infrequent ash clouds.  There is a slow build up of water within it's crater.  New local swimming hole of the future?  This site has a wonderful question and answer section where they state that there have been no considerable eruptions since May 23rd.
